Random Acts of Poetry: The Heart Wants What the Heart Wants

To stop loving you is like telling my lungs to stop breathing
I can hold my breath for 20 secs
30 secs
60 secs
Or more
But at some point,
My lungs will stop listening to my brain
And do what they were made to do
And inhale and exhale again
I’ve tried
Its not possible
Everytime I pull my mind away from you
It goes right back
I talk to you there
In my mind
We have the most interesting conversations
Your arms hold me tight
And you kiss that spot on my neck that I like so much
And I sigh
And indulge myself in that love
I want to stop loving you
But my heart won't let me
My heart wants what it wants
Too bad it wants what it can't have
